About the Piece
Timecast is a look into the history of video games, comparing the past and the present of the media and taking an in-depth look at key events that shaped the industry into what it is today. This first article was written just after my second year of uni to allow me to gain a taste for videogame journalism. I intended to continue to write the articles after university once I had more time to commit to them and to the research and design aspects of the project. This is the first article/ essay of the series, comparing pinball games being banned in the 30s to the hostility toward first-person shooters today, a somewhat controversial topic. I took a very lax and informal tone to the article as I didn’t want it to read like an academic essay, the articles are for reading pleasure rather than just spouting facts and are more reflective of a magazine than an essay on videogames.
